What did Advent Running 25in25 challenge teach me? And: my 2015 goals!
In December I ran 164 km in 25 days and I not only survived but actually really enjoyed it. And I can’t wait to do it again!
164 km is almost 4 full marathons or 8 half marathons and I did this all in 25 days. For someone who has, so far, ran only 1 half marathon, this is not too bad going, me thinks.
I had days when I REALLY dreaded putting my running shoes on, days when running felt so easy peasy that I actually sang aloud as I ran (yup, people were looking at me strange), once I woke up in the middle of the night because my legs hurt so much, I lost one toe nail, purchased two pairs of new running shoes and gained 2kg!
But overall Advent Running has been amazing. What did it teach me?
“They” say that when you think you can’t go any further, you still have 40% left!
I never believed this. I thought “ya, ya, ya, you silly person who is saying this”. Until now! I had couple of days when my legs really hurt but as soon as I started running, all the pain stopped and running felt great. On one of those days I even reached my 5k PB (26:08). It completely amazed me. Our body is an amazing machine – if we treat it well, it works heavenly.
I can achieve whatever I set my mind to!
I am a very determined person but I am also fairly impatient which means that if I don’t see results immediately I get “bored” and move onto to the next thing. Advent Running taught me that when I actually stick to something and when I’m a bit patient then the results come. So I am now super sure that I can achieve whatever I set to achieve. And when I can, I am sure YOU can too!
With all of this in mind I set my goals for 2015!
1) Run minimum of 1500 km.
Hopefully I will do even a bit more then this, but let’s be realistic. Last year I’ve done about half of this.
2) Loose 10 kg.
In September I will be running my first marathon and I worked out that it will be much easier if I weigh 65 kg rather than the 75 I currently have. Easy maths, right?! How am I going to do this? My plan is not to eat too much cake on the days when I don’t run or when I run under 10k. So we shall see, how it goes…
Although I must say that I quite enjoy the look on the fit looking men faces when I sometimes overtake them. I bet they are thinking: “This chubby girl is overtaking me??? What???!!!” :)
3) Learn German grammar.
I have now lived in Berlin for almost a year. I understand almost everything, I speak kinda okay but my grammar is appalling and my writing I’m not even going to mention. So, yup, my plan is to conquer the German grammar.
I should also find a job (I will become officially unemployed at the end of January), I should study harder, read more books, eat more healthily… but I don’t count this as my goals. This is what I “have to” do.

P.P.P.S. I’m now going to quickly finish all the chocolate we have at home before I start with this 10kg weight loss goal :)
