Why is running with friends AMAZING.
I was in London last weekend. For a long waaaaay overdue visit of one of my favourite people in the whole world – my friend Magda.
Friday night we spend drinking vodka (Magda is Polish so of course we need to drink vodka when we are together), Saturday was spend strolling through London, eating cakes, having wine and talking and talking. And on Sunday we went for a long run in the beautiful Lee Valley park, which is just around the corner from where Magda lives.
I have been ill and didn’t run for almost three weeks and my 2 half marathons in 2 capital cities in 2 days challenge is less than 2 weeks away now… and last week I went into a proper panic and got really scared that I will not survive the two runs since I haven’t run for such a long time.
So, when I was planning my visit to Magda, we agreed to go for a long run together, to get some training in and also, for me, to get my confidence back up.
We ran 17,5k and it was good. After 15k I started to cough a bit and my chest started to hurt a little (stupid flu residue) so Magda, bless her, was giving me some “pep” talk. This, of course, made me laugh and it definitely helped and it also made me realize, yet again, how much I LOVE having company when I run!
I really enjoy running on my own – it is “my” time where I let my brain wander with no real purpose, listen to my breathing, watch the world around me go by. I love how FREE I feel when it is just me and the road. And I love how my brain feels after my solo runs… clear!
Right now I work a lot (and I’m really enjoying it!) and I can honestly say that running helps me sort my thoughts and ensure that I don’t go in brain-work overload. Running keeps me sane.
Solo running is great but, for me, running with friends is AMAZING!
Running with a friend means that you can support each other when one of you is not feeling great!
Running with a friend who runs better than you pushes you to run better and faster.
And it is a fact that catching up with someone “over a run” is definitely better for your liver than catching up with someone “over a beer”. Although I do practice both of these catch-ups on regular basis and love them both equally… :)
But mainly: “They” say that joy shared is double the joy and I think that when it comes to sharing a love for running then it is even more so! Sharing the endorphin wave which comes when you run is fantastic. I also think that it kind of brings you even closer to the person you are with. And this is exactly why I love running with friends!
It is my goal to run with friends more often!
I found a female running group so will give it a try this Friday… so we shall see how it goes…
What about you?
Do you prefer running on your own or do you like running with friends?
And, are you part of some running club?
P.S. If you are in Prague, let me know… let’s go for a run together!

I prefer running on my own, but I enjoy running with friends. I also run with a female running group from time to time (did it twice so far) and it’s a nice change from my regular training. Certainly running alone and with someone are completely different things, and both are great in their own ways.

And did you like the running group?

Yes, I did. It gives me the opportunity to do some workouts I would normally never be doing, and be a part of something at the same time. And it is certainly worth to see 50 girls running together! I would join more often, but not all of the meetings are close enough from where I live.

Heey, I´ve just discovered your blog and I´m just amazed because I always love to read blog of czech girls who run as well! :)
I personally prefer running alone, however few times a year it´s nice diversification, to go running with friend. I finished my first marathon with my very good friend and it was great to encourage and cheer up one another. !

Tyhle pocity jsem měla vloni taky. A věř, že pokud běháš už nějaký ten pátek, bude to…no dobře, procházka růžovým sadem možná ne, ale zvládnutelné ano!

Wow… sooo true! I especially like the part: “Running with a friend who runs better than you pushes you to run better and faster”. I think I will send it to a friend of mine who still somehow cannot understand (or it seems like this at least) why I like his company though I also like my own FREE time a lot!:-))))

That’s a great running view in the first picture!
I love both kinds of running, but it depends what kind of run I’m doing. I love to run by myself when I have a hard workout – like intervals or hills – because I can really focus in on my own goals then. But for long runs and recovery/easy runs, running with other people is so much nicer for motivation :D
